Musicians:

Shunske Sato, violin

Shuann Chai, piano

Shunske Sato is a master interpreter who puts his playing in the service of the composer he's playing, opening up new interpretative and sonic perspectives for the listener. Shunske is a violinist, equally at home as a soloist or an ensemble leader, whether on the baroque or modern violin. As a conductor, he works with both instrumental and vocal ensembles. Historically informed practice of all eras inspires Shunske; the parameters of the past are essential for him in bringing the music into the present. He is particularly involved in cutting-edge research of 19th century performance practices, and gives lectures and workshops on the topic.

Pianist Shuann Chai is a soloist and chamber musician who performs on a wide range of early to modern pianos, bringing the emotional content of music from the past to listeners in the present. Recognised by critics as “a graceful virtuoso”, she has been praised for performances that are “sensitive and communicative, …full of warmth and emotion.” Recent projects include collaborations with the Dudok Quartet Amsterdam as well as performances in Germany (Göttingen Handelfestspiele, among others), Norway (Gloppen Musikkfest), Japan (Suntory Hall, Izumi Hall, and others), Taiwan (National Cconcert Hall), and throughout the Netherlands. Shuann is the director of the Fortepiano Festival in Zaandijk and is professor of piano at Codarts, Rotterdam.

In the Shunske and Shuann's new recording of Beethoven’s complete Sonatas for Piano and Violin, Shunske and Shuaan bring knowledge, insight, and bold emotionality to a boundary-challenging set of 3 CDs.
